Why Get The Colossal Fixed Blade?

This is a great knife if you are going camping or on an outdoor excursion. Compared with EDC pocket knives, a fixed blade is better suited for batoning wood and cutting through tough materials, and the grip/handle is much sturdier.

The blade itself is made out of ceramic-coated steel, which will easily slice and cut, and the rubber handle will allow for a sturdy and tight grip even in wet conditions.

The 5.5-inch blade is decent for most things. It’s not too big or too small. And you get a sheath to go along with it.

Fixed Blade vs Folding

You can read more about it here, but in short, the fixed blade lasts longer and is sturdier. In the case of self-defense, cutting, and slicing, it is overall a lot better than a folding knife, but you don’t have the advantage of portability.

A fixed blade knife is a type of knife that has a blade that is permanently fixed into the handle, as opposed to a folding knife that can be folded into the handle for safe storage and easy carrying. Here are some reasons to consider buying a fixed-blade knife:

  1. Strength and Durability: Fixed blade knives have no moving parts, which makes them stronger and more durable than folding knives. This makes them ideal for heavy-duty tasks such as chopping wood, skinning animals, and survival situations.
  2. Safety: Fixed-blade knives typically have a full tang blade that extends through the handle, providing a strong and stable grip and reducing the risk of the knife breaking or snapping during use.
  3. Versatility: Fixed-blade knives can be used for a wide range of tasks, from cutting rope and opening cans to self-defense and survival situations.
  4. Ergonomics: Many fixed-blade knives are designed with ergonomic handles to provide a comfortable and secure grip, even in wet or slippery conditions.
  5. Professional use: Fixed blade knives are used in various professions such as construction, industrial, and manufacturing, for cutting ropes, wires, opening crates, etc.
  6. Outdoor activities: Fixed-blade knives can be used for a variety of outdoor activities, such as camping, hunting, or fishing. They can be used to prepare food, cut branches, and make shelter.
  7. Personal Security: A fixed-blade knife can be a valuable addition to a personal security plan, providing a means of self-defense if confronted by an attacker or other dangerous situation.
  8. Collectability: Fixed-blade knives are often considered as collectible items by some enthusiasts, who appreciate their design, craftsmanship, and historical significance.

It’s important to be aware of the laws and regulations regarding the possession and carrying of knives in your area and to use your fixed-blade knife responsibly and safely. It’s also important to practice proper maintenance and care for your knife to ensure that it is always ready for use when you need it.

  1. Mike

I really like the knife and took it with me on a camping tour. Although the blade was good, the sheath was quite uncomfortable.
