Why Choose a Folding Knife?
Folding pocket knives are better suited for camping for the following reasons:
- Easy to carry
- Multi-functional
- Cheaper
- Useful in EDC situations
How to Choose a Folding Pocket Knife for Camping?
Before you buy a folding pocket knife specifically for camping, make sure to take these things into consideration.
Rust-proof & Durable
First and foremost your pocket knife for camping needs to be durable and rust-proof. You will most likely get your knife wet, or it will rain, etc.
Stainless steel or materials that are resistant to rust are better choices when you are buying a pocket knife.
When you drop your knife, the screws and the bolts can loosen, so shockproof knives are also good. Maybe try to find knives that have a rubber handle or shock-absorbent qualities.
Spring Mechanism
A good spring mechanism around the neck area is important. So if you want that cool snap, then pay attention to how well the screws and bolts are put together.
Sometimes the lubricant can dry up around the neck area making it harder to flip your knife. Pay attention to how easily you can oil and lubricate it.
Coating & Handle
Some coatings are toxic and not good for your health, especially spray-painted ones. Wood, marble, stone, or natural materials are a much better choice, but they can be on the expensive side.
Plastic is the cheaper option, but I would recommend to at least go with steel and if possible a rubber handle cover. You want your grip to be tight and sturdy.
